Single machine scheduling problem with a weight-modifying-activity to minimize the total weighted completion time

چکیده

The single-machine scheduling problem with a weight-modifying-activity (WMA) to minimize the total weighted completion time was initially addressed by Mosheiov and Oron in 2020, where activity an option, once performed, weights of subsequent jobs become decreased. This has proven be NP-hard. Following their study, we propose two mixed integer linear programming models (model_1 model_2). Based on some optimality properties, heuristic algorithm swap insert procedures is developed. computation results indicate that model_2 can optimally solve problems up 40 efficiently, while average relative percentage error hit rate proposed 0.0005% 98.2%, respectively. influence parameters, such as number jobs, adjusted coefficient for job weight, WMA, performance methods, are also analyzed.

Scheduling with Rejection to Minimize the Total Weighted Completion Time∗

In this paper, we address the scheduling problem with rejection in which we can choose a subset of jobs to process. Choosing not to process any job incurs a corresponding penalty. We consider the following problem for the first time: scheduling with rejection to minimize the total weighted completion time with the constraint of total penalties on identical parallel machines, where the number of...

Single machine scheduling problem with interval processing times to minimize mean weighted completion time

The single resource scheduling problem is commonly applicable in practice not only when there is a single resource but also in some multiple-resource production systems where only one of the resources is bottle neck. Thus, the single resource (machine) scheduling problem has been widely addressed in the scheduling literature. In this paper, the single machine scheduling problem with uncertain a...

NP-hardness of the single-variable-resource scheduling problem to minimize the total weighted completion time

Baker and Nuttle [1] studied the following single-variable-resource scheduling problem: sequencing n jobs for processing by a single resource to minimize a function of job completion times, when the availability of the resource varies over time. When the objective function to be minimized is the total weighted completion time, Baker and Nuttle conjectured that the problem is NP-hard. We show in...

A Novel B and B Algorithm for a Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling Problem to Minimize the Total Weighted Tardiness

This paper presents a scheduling problem with unrelated parallel machines and sequencedependent setup times that minimizes the total weighted tardiness. A new branch-and-bound (B and B) algorithm is designed incorporating the lower and upper bounding schemes and several dominance properties. The lower and upper bounds are derived through an assignment problem and the composite dispatching rule ...
